Play-Based from the Start

For the youngest players, basketball starts with play. Preschool classes are designed to build comfort with the game before anything else, using movement and fun to develop coordination and confidence in kids who have never touched a basketball.

A Curriculum That Grows With the Player

Hoop Stars is built around a level-by-level progression that introduces new skills, bigger challenges, and more competitive formats only when players are ready. The same child who learns to dribble at 3 can be running plays at 13, and every step in between is intentional.

Built for Every Skill Level

Hoop Stars has never been about developing elite players. Every program welcomes kids where they are, whether they are picking up a basketball for the first time or coming in with a few seasons of experience. There is always a place to start and room to grow.

More Than the Game

The goal of every Hoop Stars program is to send kids home having learned something beyond basketball. How to work hard. How to lose gracefully. How to show up for a team. Those lessons start early and stick around long after the season ends.

The Coaches Behind Hoop Stars

  • Coach Dan

    Coach Dan founded Hoop Stars in 2018 and has spent more than 30 years working in youth sports, including four years as a member of the Penn State Basketball team from 1990 to 1994. His philosophy has guided the program from the start: meet kids where they are, build confidence through the game, and make every session worth showing up for.

    "I consider myself one of the lucky ones. I get to do what I love every day for work."

    Coach Jess

    Coach Jess works directly with the preschool population in Hoop Stars' daytime private classes. As a mom of two Hoop Stars alums, she knows the program from both the coaching side and the parent side. Outside of Hoop Stars, Coach Jess is a yoga instructor and personal trainer who believes in the value of varied movement for people of all ages and sees that same philosophy at work in every Hoop Stars class.
