Meet the Coach Behind Hoop Stars: Former Penn State Player Dan McKenna
Hoop Stars is led by Dan McKenna, a former Penn State Basketball player who has spent more than 30 years teaching the game to young athletes. Dan was a member of the Penn State Basketball team from 1990 to 1994, and that experience shapes everything about the way he coaches. His approach is straightforward: create a positive environment where kids can build real skills, gain confidence, and fall in love with the game.
Every class Dan teaches is designed to introduce players to something new while reinforcing the team concepts that matter most. Whether a child is just learning to dribble or stepping up to a competitive league, Dan meets them where they are and pushes them forward.
Since its founding, Hoop Stars has grown to serve nearly 10,000 children ages 3 to 13. Whether a child is just learning to dribble or stepping up to a competitive league, Dan designs every program to introduce something new while keeping the focus on teamwork, effort, and having fun.
